Early this morning the King underwent an operation to relieve a painful Achilles tendon in his left leg. It was a minor operation requiring neither general anesthesia nor hospitalization. During the operation, the traumatologist Ángel Villamor used Plasma Rich in Growth Factor (PRGF®-Endoret®), a technology developed and patented by BTI Biotechnology Institute, to promote the regeneration and repair of the damaged tissues, as well as to hasten the recovery of the King’s heel.

By applying PRGF®-Endoret® it is possible to simulate and accelerate (by up to 40%) the physiological mechanisms of repair triggered spontaneously in all damaged tissues, whether as a result of injury, surgical treatment, or disease. With this method, the destroyed or damaged tissue is replaced by a natural process with fresh tissue, but in much less time than is the case with conventional treatments. All this from small concentrations of blood plasma obtained by centrifuging the patient’s own blood. As this treatment involves using the patient’s own plasma, there is never any question of an allergic reaction or of rejection of the treatment.

PRGF®-Endoret®, a technology that is 100% Spanish.

PRGF®-Endoret® technology first emerged in the late 1990s from the hand of the Basque medical stomatologist, Eduardo Anitua. Since then, Dr. Anitua has been working tirelessly to find possible therapeutic applications for growth factors for improving and speeding up the processes of healing in his patients in the aftermath of surgery.

After setting up his own research centre in Vitoria, BTI Biotechnology Institute, Dr. Anitua began using PRGF®-Endoret® in oral surgery as a means of regenerating the bone tissue around dental implants and so cut down on their consolidation time. But within a short time, and given the versatility of this technology, its application has spread to different areas of medicine such as ophthalmology, dermatology, cosmetic surgery, sports medicine, and traumatology.

The solution chosen by many sports personalities and celebrities is now within everyone’s reach.

Thanks to its excellent therapeutic results, backed up by countless clinical trials and scientific publications in internationally renowned journals, a large number of public personalities, celebrities, and ordinary citizens have benefited from PRGF®-Endoret®. Take the case of tennis ace Rafa Nadal or Barcelona football star Xavi Hernández – both have used this treatment on a number of occasions to speed their recovery from an and enable them to get back to competing as quickly as possible.

However, this therapeutic technique is not just a treatment for the rich and famous – its cost is not high and its benefits are well known. By now, several thousands of patients have been treated successfully with PRGF®-Endoret®.
